- Completed a minimum of 45 credits by the time of initial entry into the program
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Has a strong commitment to pursue graduate education through a doctorate and desire to conduct research.
- Students whose career goals include a medical (MD) or other professional degree (JD, MBA, PharmD, PsyD, Ed. D etc.) are not eligible

Statement of Purpose:
In general, your statement should be approximately 500 words (1-2) pages and should speak to your qualities and experiences as a student, future researcher, and should clarify how the McNair program will be important to the achievement of your goals. In addition to this general guidance, you may use the following questions to help guide your answer:
- Please describe your aptitude and motivation for graduate study in your area of specialization, including your preparation for this field of study, your academic plans or research interests in your chosen area of study, and your future career goals.
- What are your reasons for graduate study? Please describe your current degree goals and your reasons for selecting a field of study.
- What are you the most and least excited about in your current and future academic work?
- What are your research interests? Describe past research experiences, if any.
- Describe some of your academic successes and academic challenges.
